Ginsights is an informal literary event held regularly in the Carlton Lounge at Olims Bar and Bistro. Guest authors from Canberra, our region and other parts of Australia share conversation and cocktails with the keen readers of Canberra. Paperchain bookstore staff come along to sell copies of the authors books. Olims Bar and Bistro will be serving a cocktail of the night featuring Big River spirits and a Big River G&T, in addition to their usual selection of drinks and dining options.

Join us on Thursday 20 August at Ginsights for an inspiring evening of conversation with acclaimed Pakistani-Australian author Mehreen Arshi.
Mehreen’s writing explores the complexities of the human experience—family, memory, migration, love, duty, and identity. Drawing on her background in research and scientific writing, she brings depth, insight, and compassion to stories that resonate long after the final page.
In conversation with Ginsights, Mehreen will discuss her acclaimed debut novel, I Carry Your Heart, a moving exploration of love, family, Pakistani culture, and the courage it takes to challenge expectations and forge your own path. She will also offer an exclusive preview of her next novel, a manuscript that was highly commended for the Varuna Residential Fellowship at the National Writers’ House.v
The evening will feature a formal Q&A, followed by the opportunity to meet Mehreen over cocktails and continue the conversation in a relaxed and intimate setting. Our bookselling partner, Paperchain Bookstore, will have copies of The Paradise Pact available for purchase, with a book signing by Anita on the night. Olims Bar & Bistro will offer a cocktail of the night featuring Big River spirits, alongside a Big River G&T and their full menu of drinks and dining options.
