Royal Australian Mint

Looking for things to see in Canberra? The Royal Australian Mint is one of Canberra’s best local attractions…

The Royal Australian Mint is one of Canberra’s most popular attractions. The Mint is the production facility for Australia’s legal tender precious metal coins and is the sole supplier of Australia’s circulating coinage, as well as producing coins for other countries and private clients. It also produces various honours medals for both civilian and military use, such as the Order of Australia.

Why not spend a fascinating day with the family on a behind-the-scenes tour where you can see the coins being made? Educational and great fun for the whole family!

Located in the Canberra suburb of Deakin, The Royal Australian Mint was opened in 1965 by His Royal Highness, Prince Philip and has been recently refurbished. Features include…

  • The Royal Australian Mint coin shop where you can make your own coins
  • Theatrette presentations which explain the coining process
  • Rare coins
  • Displays of the history of Australian coins
  • Video displays

The Royal Australian Mint is open most days except Christmas day and Good Friday (check official website for details) and admission is free. Mercure Canberra is ideally situated to visit the Mint and many other top Canberra attractions and things to see.
